Pattern Insight CTO and Co-Founder to Speak at ESC Design West Conference

Mountain View, CA – February 2, 2012 – Pattern Insight™, the company dedicated to improving software quality and security, today announced that President, CTO and co-founder, YY Zhou will speak at the upcoming ESC Design West conference in San Jose, March 26 – 29.

YY will give a talk entitled, How Do Fixes Become Bugs? A Comprehensive Study of Incorrect Fixes in Commercial and Open Source Embedded Operating Systems, on March 26, 1:00 PM. She will present major findings from a study of large operating systems and their defect rates resulting bug fixes. She will explain how up to 24.4% of bug fixes were found to be incorrect with significant impact on end users. Further, she will speak about specific defect types, such as concurrency bugs, and the challenges in addressing them. The results of this study provide useful guidelines in designing new tools and improving the development process itself.

YY Zhou co-founded Pattern Insight in 2006. She is a professor of Computer Science at the University of California, San Diego. Before this, Dr. Zhou was associate CS professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she led pioneering research in system data mining, system reliability, and system management. She co-founded Emphora Inc., was a scientist at NEC Research Lab, and Director of Engineering at StorageNetworks. She has received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, Alfred Sloan Fellowship Award, IBM Faculty Award, Computer Research Association Anita Borg Career Award, Department of Energy Early Career Award and the UIUC Gear Faculty Award. YY has published more than 70 research papers and holds several patents. She obtained her Ph.D. and M.S. in computer science from Princeton University.
