Pattern Insight Founder and CTO Wins ACM SIGSOFT Award
Pattern Insight Founder And CTO, YY Zhou Wins
ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award
Mountain View, CA – September 12, 2011 – Pattern Insight™, a company dedicated to improving software quality and security, today announced that President, CTO and co-founder Yuanyuan “YY” Zhou will be presented the ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award at ESEC/FSE 2011, the respected software engineering conference, held this year in Szeged, Hungary. The award was given for the paper, “How Do Fixes Become Bugs? -- A Comprehensive Characteristic Study on Incorrect Fixes in Commercial and Open Source Operating Systems”, that YY authored along with Zuoning Yin, Ding Yuan, Shankar Pasupathy and Lakshmi Bairavasundaram.
“I am honored to receive this award, along with my co-authors,” YY stated. “It's equally gratifying to see increased awareness among commercial and open source developers of the role bug fixes play in increased defect rates. Awareness is the first step in getting this problem under control."
Previously fixed bugs that slip back into production releases are a significant and rapidly growing problem for software development organizations. They tend to escape rigorous quality assurance processes; are missed by traditional static analysis tools; and most importantly, are especially difficult for customers to accept when discovered.
“We are gratified to see YY receive this award. She has been at the forefront of technology developments to assure greater software quality and security for the last 10 years and it is good to see her efforts recognized once more,” said Spiros Xanthos, Pattern Insight COO.
